Flood situation aggravates in Samastipur and other areas of Bihar
Patna, Aug 29 (UNI) The flood situation further deteriorated today in some areas of North Bihar, including Samastipur district, following yesterday's heavy downpour.
The flood water was playing havoc in Samastipur, Madhubani and Muzaffarpur districts as these areas were inundated following breaches in embankments of the rivers.
Sources from the Central Water Commission here said all major rivers of North Bihar were flowing above the danger level.
A report from Samastipur district said following heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of the Budhi Gandak, some more areas were submerged by flood water.
The administration was working on war footing to prevent the breaches in the embankments.
The report further said flood water had inundated ten more villages of Tarsarai Morwa and Saraigunj block. It had also disrupted the movement of traffic on National Highways 28 and 103.
The flood water had snapped road links of the villages with the district headquarters.
The water level of the Bagmati, Kareh and Kosi increased following last night's heavy downpour and the water was flowing from the breached embankments at Mankauli, Shankarpur, Mahadeva and Parsa villages.
A report from Muzaffarpur district said the flood situation remained grim in Saraia, Aurai and Katara blocks, where several villages were marooned and the district administration had taken up the relief work on war footing.
The water of the Bagmati and Lakhandei was exerting pressure on the embankments.
A report from Darbhanga said Uttar Bihar Kshetriya Grameen Bank had announced to provide loan to those flood victims having account on concessional interest rate.
The account holders with Rs 500 balance could avail Rs 2500 loan on concessional interest rate of 11 per cent.
