Five Army jawans killed in accident in J&K

Jammu, Aug 29 (UNI) Five Army jawans were killed while one was seriously injured when an anti-mine vehicle, they were travelling in as Road Opening Party (RoP), plunged into a deep gorge in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir today, a defence spokesman said.

''We lost four jawans (on the spot) when an anti-mine casper vehicle met with an accident at Digdoul in Ramban at around 1100 hours,'' defence spokesman Lt Col S D Goswami told UNI.

One of the two seriously injured jawans succumbed later while undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital Ramban, sources said.

The deceased, who belonged to 23 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), were identified as Riflemen Rajesh Singh (Driver), Rajesh Singh Tomar, Lance Naik Raj Kumar Yadav, Lance Naik Rishidev and Havildar Arvind Kumar.

Injured jawan, Narinder Singh Koswa was shifted to Command Hospital (Northern), Udhampur.
