CPI(M) leaders stage dharna, demanding houses for poor

Vijayawada, Aug 29 (UNI) CPI(M) leaders and cadres today staged a dharna in front of the Sub-Collector's Office here, demanding houses and house sites for the landless poor.

The agitators, including State Committee Member Ch Babu Rao and Krishna District Secretary V Umamaheswara Rao, claimed that the Government had decided to conduct a survey to identify beneficiaries for providing houses under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission in Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam only after the Left parties' 'Bhooporatam' (land struggle).

The Government should consider those eligible poor who have occupied Government lands and erected huts during the stir and allot them pattas, they said, adding that the agitation would continue till the Government provided house and houses sites to the poor.
