Congress infighting behind Delhi govt's inaction on sealing: BJP

New Delhi, Aug 29 (UNI) Blaming the Congress infighting for the state of affairs in Delhi and the impasse which has threatened the livelihood of over 40 lakh people, the BJP today said inaction on framing policies for unauthorised colonies was due to its vote-bank politics.

The tussle between Union Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken and Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has endangered the livelihood of more than 40 lakh people due to the renewed sealing drive, said senior BJP leader Vijay Goel addressing mediapersons.

''There's no welfare of the people in mind but vote-bank politics that governs the moves of the Congress government. Earlier the Masterplan 2021 was brought when MCD elections were to be held, and now it was talking about including unauthorised colonies in the Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Bill 2007 pending in the parliament when there were rumours of general elections being round the corner.'' Observing that six months had passed ever since the Union cabinet passed a resolution to regularise unauthorised colonies, the state government did nothing in this direction because of which lakhs of people were facing loss of job and livelihood, the BJP leader said their attitude was anti-people and anti-poor.

''My party will undertake a 'padyatra' in all the unauthorised colonies and make the people aware of the Sheila Dikshit government's inaction which has led to the sword of Damocles hanging over their head.'' Along with this, a 'jag jagran abhiyan' would also be organised to apprise the people on the short-sighted policies of the ruling party and how it was not presenting the case properly before the court that has led the situation to the present state, he informed.

''We want the government to frame a long-term policy on Delhi that would bring relief to most of the people and take into confidence all the parties on the likely solution.'' The former Union Minister also said if the government was incapable of handling the issue, it should engage a private player which could lay down a proper plan for Delhi.
