BJP demands white paper on ISI activities during Cong rule
Hyderabad, Aug 29 (UNI) BJP has demanded a white paper on the ISI activities in Andhra Pradesh after Congress came to power over three years ago.
Talking to newspersons here today, party state President Bandaru Dattatreya said he had written a letter to Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy in this regard. Reports indicated that the ISI had intensified its activities in the Telangana region after Congress came to power in May 2004 and he wanted the detailed information in a white paper. He also demanded that an all-party meeting should be called for discussing the matter in detail.
Mr Dattatreya faulted the statement of the Chief Minister that the terrorist attacks in the city were 'surprise events'. He said the Centre had informed the state government about 'anticipatory places' where attacks could happen.
Alleging that the officials were misleading the Chief Minister, he said the recent blasts in the city were definitely due to intelligence failure.
Mr Dattatreya said while the Chief Minister was asking every one to show restraint, Union Women and Child Development Minister Renuka Choudhary was making provocative statements that the BJP was playing politics with dead bodies and asked her if the advise of the Chief Minister was not applicable to her.
Appreciating the announcement of the Chief Minister that the government had proposed to set an elite network like the Grey Hounds in the intelligence wing to fight terrorism, Mr Dattatreya said this would only be useful in the long term and wanted to know what short term measures the government would spell out to meet the immediate threats.
He said Mr Reddy should have clear idea about the threat perception and added that only then he could give a proper signal to the people.
