Ranchi, Aug 29 (UNI) The BJP accused the ruling UPA in Jharkhand of misusing government machinery in the byelection to Jamshedpur Parliamentary seat today.

State party president Pashupati Nath Singh alleged that the entire district administration was engaged in helping Jharkhand Mukti Morcha candidate Suman Mahto, the widow of Sunil Mahto, who was assassinted on March four last.

Mr Singh said the voters, particulaly in the urban areas, were discouraged by the authorities to cast ballot and large numbers of voters' names were deleted from the list.

Many eligible voters could not excercise their franchise, Mr Singh said.

Repeated allegations by the BJP workers to the authorities concerned pointing out the largescale deletion did not elicit any response, the BJP preisident said.

However, he claimed that despite all such hazards party candidate Dinesh Sarangi had a fair chance to win.
