89 Army personnel punished for her violation
Jammu, Aug 29 (UNI) As many as 89 Army personnel including 34 officers, found guilty of human rights violations, have been punished so far in Jammu and Kashmir during the 19 years of militancy, Army sources said here today.
In 33 cases of human rights violations which have been established by the Army's courts of inquiry, 89 personnel have been punished since 1990, the sources said.
The figures suggest that anyone who has been found guilty of rights abuses has not been spared. There is no truth in the allegations being raised in some quarters that the army is going slow in handling such cases,'' the sources added.
''34 officers, five Junior Commissioned Officers and 50 other ranks have been punished for various rights violation-related offences so far,'' sources said.
It was revealed further that although there were 1460 allegations of human rights violations registered against the armed forces in the state since the eruption of militancy, only 33 were found to be true.
''Of courses the vested interests, especially in Kashmir valley, have embarked on a vicious campaign to malign the image of the security forces which is evident in such high number of false allegations of human rights violations,'' added the source adsded.
