YC workers turn violent in membership enrollment meeting
Puducherry, Aug 28 (UNI) Tension prevailed at Ariyankuppam today as a section of the Youth Congress workers turned violent at a meeting to inaugurate the membership enrollment drive.
As soon as Puducherry Youth Congress President Pandiyan began his welcome address,a section of the workers raised slogans against him. When he requested them to keep calm, they resorted to violence by smashing the chairs and ransacking the office of the marriage hall where the function was being held. They also tore the huge cut-outs of the leaders, pelted stones and organised a road block.
Police held talks with them and forced the workers to move 100 feet away from the venue of the function, following which the meeting commenced.
Youth Congress All-India President Ashok Dhanwar, General Secretary Chandan Yadav and secretary Tipti Mary Varghese besides AICC general secretary V Narayansamy participated in the meeting.
None of the Ministers, legislators and Congress functionaries turned up for the meeting.
It was not known immediately why a section of the workers indulged in violence.
