UPS celebrates 100 years of service
Mumbai, Aug 28 (UNI) The United Parcel Service is celebrating its centenary year of service.
A century ago, in 1907 when Rudyard Kipling won the Nobel Prize for Literature, two teenagers named Jim Casey and Claude Ryan began the American Messenger Company with a USD 100 loan, from a tiny office in Seatle.
From that humble beginning, the UPS has transformed itself from a department store delivery service to a trusted business enterprise for its customers by synchronizing the flow of goods, information and funds, a press release here today said.
Today, UPS operates in 200 countries, posseses the world's eighth-largest airline, deploys almost 92,000 vehicles and employs 427,000 people around the world, the release added.
UPS began operating in India in 1988 in 25 cities, covering 43 locations.
