UK Trade and Investment extends hand to Punjabi entrepreneurs

Chandigarh, Aug 28 (UNI) In a bid to enhance its engagement with the entrepreneurs of Punjab, UK Trade and Investment, the overseas trade arm of the UK government, will be organising a two-city seminar programmes on August 29 and 30.

This is a part of the UK governments intiative to further boost its business relations with Punjab's business community, UK Trade and Investment, India Director Jane Owen said here today.

''The entrepreneurial characteristic of the Punjabi community is well known - in the UK we recognise it and celebrate it. Therefore it is only natural for the UK to enhance its business relations with the next generation of entrepreneurs in Punjab, across all sectors'', he said in a statement.

The UK is a vibrant, diversified economy that offers opportunities for companies to prosper and realise their international potential, he said, while pointing out the high level of Indian investment into the UK. In the first half of 2007, Tata-Corus (nine billion dllars) and UB-Whyte and Mackay (600 millon pounds) alone pushed India onto the big league of investors in the UK, Mr Owen added.

The seminars, scheduled to be held in Chandigarh on August 29 and August 30 in Ludhiana, are being supported by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI).

The experts will brief potential investors about opportunities in the UK and offer to assist companies to plan and prepare their overseas investment plans. Experts from 'UKvisas' will also be at hand to answer queries at the seminars.
