UHBVN extends Electricity Bill Waiver Scheme

Chandigarh, Aug 28 (UNI) The Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) has decided to give one more chance of availing the benefit of Electricity Bill Waiver Scheme till September 30 to the domestic and tubewell consumers of rural areas to avoid disconnections.

A Nigam spokesman said here today that the chance would be given to those consumers who had deposited at least one current bill during the period June 16, 2005 to May 31 this year. Such consumers would be required to deposit the outstanding amount in lumpsum.

He clarified that no fresh consumer would be allowed to opt for the scheme now. The Nigam would not permanently disconnect the power supply of those consumers who would make the payment by September 30.

He said many consumers had initially opted for the scheme and deposited some installments. They were now willing to deposit the unpaid amount without surcharge to avoid disconnections as the Nigam had intensified the disconnection campaign against the non payers, he added.

The spokesman said the Nigam had targeted to disconnect the supply of four lakh non payers during the current financial year.
