Tokyo stocks down as exporters, banks fall

TOKYO, Aug 28 (Reuters) The Nikkei average fell 0.5 percent on Tuesday, with high-tech exporters such as Toshiba Corp losing ground following a fall on Wall Street and a firmer yen.

The Nikkei was down 88.58 points, or 16,233.32 as of 0004 GMT, while the broader TOPIX index fell 0.5 percent to 1,579.24.
