Sonepat, Aug 28 (UNI) Tension prevailed in Gohana town in this district where prohibitory orders were imposed following protests over the murder of a dalit leader last night.

Hundreds of dalit protesters gathered at the Samta Chowk in the town as police brought the body of dalit leader Rakesh Lara after post mortem today. Lara was shot dead by three unidentified armed assailants last night.

Lara was the main accused in the murder of Baljit Siwach on August 26, 2005. The murder had led to the burning of over 100 dalit houses in Gohana. Lara was, however, acquitted in CBI probe later.

The prohibitory orders under section 144 Cr PC were imposed as hundreds of dalit protesters came on the streets following the Lara's murder.

The protesters set ablaze a police post in the town last night, blocked the Sonepat-Jind highway and damaged several vehicles.
