Punjab CM initiates steps for curbing corruption

Moga, Aug 28 (UNI) The Punjab government has decided to evolve a mechanism to curb the check corruption so as to provide clean and corruption free governance.

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has asked all the Deputy Commissioners in the state to ensure the implementation of the concept of clean administration.

According to official information available here today, Mr Badal after consulting the Deputy Commissioners, has decided to divide the state into three categories--- A,B and C , to deal with the menace of corruption. The state government would provide funds to the tune of Rs ten lakh, Rs seven lakh and Rs five lakh respectively to these categories for holding functions like Republic day, Independence Day and Punjab Day.

This amount would also be spent on the visit of VIPs in the respective districts.

''This step would help in curbing corruption at lower level as some officers are made to arrange money for the holding of such functions and for spending during VIP visits'', a senior official stated. The money is generally collected from the business class or from employees of government departments.

The basic purpose of this step is to ''liberate the common man from the load of providing money for such functions'', the official stated.
