Kalaimamani awards to be presented to 68 artistes on Sept 1
Chennai, Aug 28 (UNI) Sixty-eight artistes, who were selected for Tamil Nadu Government's prestigious 2006 Kalaimamani awards, would be felicitated at a function to be held here on September 1.
Governor S S Barnala would preside over the function, while Chief Minister M Karunanidhi would present the awards, which comprise of a gold medal and purse, an official release stated.
The Chief Minister would also provide financial assistance to indigent artistes, besides presenting the rolling trophy for the best art and stage troupes, it said.
Portraits of 18 giants, who died recently, would also be unveiled at the function, organised by the Tamil Nadu ''Iyal Isai Natak Manram'', the release said.
The Kalaimamani awards are being presented every year to artistes, drawn from various fields, in recognition of their outstanding contributions in their respective fields.
