Bangalore, Aug 28 (UNI) Karnataka Human Rights Commission Chairman S R Naik today advocated setting up a dependable system of internaitonal security and peace and to protect human rights-the right to live.

Justice Naik inaugurating a two-day workshop on 'Emerging Media Challenges Amid Proliferation of Conflict-Internal and International', organised by Press Institute of India and International Commiitee of the Red Cross here, he said that the nations and individuals were very much concerned with problems of human rights and consequences arising from its violation.

In the last six decade human rights have become, at least in the free and democratic world, a live and vibrant issue and if there was one single ideology widely accepted round the world today, it was the concept of human rights, he added.

Justice Naik said that " the media should play role of a social scientist, critic, evaluator of plans and schemes by provoking ideas and thought to help the poor, marginalised and weeker sections to have access to justice." The media should also play its citical role in upholding the rule of law and resist attempt from any corner to degrade democracy and free society, he added.
