Gushing waters from Nagaland drown four children in Assam
Guwahati, Aug 28 (UNI) Four children, aged between six to 18 years, drowned in separate incidents as water from Naga hills gushed into the rivulets and streams of Sivsagar district along the Assam-Nagaland border today.
One Rajesh Rawtia (12) and Nagen Gogoi (18) were drowned when their raft overturned by the rushing water. In separate incidents, Pritam Pradhan (6) and Gopa (6) were also washed away.
The incidents occurred in Tipon, Aidewjaan and Borahat rivulets, which are fed by water from the neighbouring Naga hills, under Charaidew sub-division. These rivulets flow into the Dikhow and Desang rivers, major tributaries of the Brahmaputra.
Incessant rain in the hills since the past two days has led to a sharp rise in water levels in these rivulets and streams, which originate from the hills.
