Empty catridge seized from US national; allowed to fly

Chennai, Aug 28 (UNI) A London-bound US national was detained for a while at the Anna International Airport here today as empty cartridges were found in his possession.

Airport sources said Nimhin Richard (40), bound for London by an Air France flight, was found carrying two empty cartridges -- point nine mm (five round) and point 022 mm (15 round)--in his hand baggage.

On inquiry, he told security personnel that he was an officer in the American Army and was holding a licence for carrying a gun.

Security officials seized the cartridges and later allowed him to board the flight.
