Crane overturns at Metro site, driver dies
New Delhi, Aug 28 (UNI) A crane driver working at a Delhi Metro construction site in Mayur Vihar area of East Delhi died today after his vehicle overturned during digging operations.
Bachitra Singh (27) was injured after the crane he was driving overturned at about 1630 hrs while lifting a concrete block in conjunction with another crane, according to sources.
As the second crane developed a technical snag, the load of the concrete block fell entirely on the first crane which could not sustain the balance and overturned leading to severe injuries to the driver.
He was rushed to the Kailash hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Hailing from Gursdaspur in Punjab, Singh had been working for 'Navyug Constructions', which had the contract for construction work on the Metro project in the area.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has ordered an enquiry into the incident.
