Amend proposed Special Provisions Bill on sealing, give amnesty: BJP
New Delhi, Aug 28 (UNI) Holding the Centre responsible for the renewed 'sealing spree' in the capital, the BJP today demanded that the Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Bill 2007 be amended, as it was incomplete, in order to provide relief to the common man reeling under the demolition and sealing onslaught.
Addressing the media, senior party leader V K Malhotra said the amnesty scheme as per Malhotra Committee recommendations was the only way to solve the festering problem that had now also become a law and order problem.
''Jaipal Reddy, Ajay Maken and Sheila Dikshit have fooled the people of Delhi for long and all their assurances have come a cropper. They must resign taking moral responsibility for their failure to protect the intersts of the 'aam admi'.'' Demanding that certain amendments like inclusion of unauthorised colonies, pre-1962 refugee colonies, non-notified roads and unauthorised construction in regularised colonies be included in the forthcoming Bill, Delhi BJP president Harshvardhan said until these were incorporated in the Bill to be presented in the Parliament the problem would remain where it was.
''With these amendments and a moratorium on the sealings and demolitions for an year, the public would get some respite. In between, the government could bring about a comprehensive plan to provide permanent relief to the people.'' With the Supreme Court directing to begin sealing in all unauthorised colonies, lakhs of people were on the verge of losing their livelihood. Despite the Central cabinet having approved a proposal to reglarise unauthorised colonies in February itself, the governent remained 'sleeping' for the last six months, he added.
''The exemptions given to farm houses be extended to the entire city.'' UNI AN AKJ HT1825
