Mumbai, Aug 27 (UNI) The Union Home Ministry has sought from the city police commissioner, full facts and present status of the case pertaining to POTA accused Muzammil Akhtar Ansari in the 2003 blasts here that had left thirteen people dead.

Home under-secretary Gobind Singh, in a letter dated August 6 -- a copy of which is available with UNI, has asked the Mumbai police commissioner to furnish requisite information regarding the trial of Muzammil Akhtar Ansari which is pending in the special POTA court.

The letter stated, ''The Ministry has received a VIP reference in this regard which has to be replied urgently. It is, therefore, requested that the requisite information be furnished immediately.'' Muzammil is an accused and is facing trial in the case pertaining to the bomb blasts at Mulund, Mumbai Central and Vile Parle here in the year 2003. In these blasts, 13 people were killed and over 100 injured.

According to the prosecution, Muzammil served as a planter of bombs in this case.

Trial into the case has been stayed by the Supreme Court as prime accused Saquib Nachan had filed two Special Leave Petitions, praying that since the blasts had occurred and three different places and the investigations, too, were conducted separately, these cases should be heard separately and should not be clubbed together.

There are a total of 16 accused in the case. One of them, Atif Nasir Mulla, was granted bail by the Bombay High Court in December last year while the rest are in judicial custody. Joint Commissioner of Police Meera Borwankar has recommended to the State Government that an SLP should be filed for the cancellation of Mulla's bail.
