Swift arrest of rapist thwarts possible clashes in Kashmir
Srinagar, Aug 27 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir police thwarted a possible communal clash in Kashmir valley when they swiftly arrested a person for kidnapping and raping a girl of the majority community.
Superintendent of Police (SP), Handwara, Dr Haseen Mughal said with the rest of the accused, a major communal clash was averted.
Giving details about the incident, he said, a report was lodged in a police station that a first year student, daughter of Mohammad Maqbool Khan from Khar Mohalla, Pringroo was abducted by a youth identified as Raju.
To nab the accused and recover the girl, special police squads were formed and rushed to different places. Similarly, raids were conducted at Baramulla, Kangan, Ganderbal and Rafiabad.
Dr Mughal said during investigation, the accused was identified as constable Satish Kumar alias Raju of Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police (JKAP) 12th batallion, presently posted at Sub-jail Reasi, Jammu.
He said all police stations were informed about the incident and finally Raju, a Kashmiri pandit, resident of Wussan Kangan, Ganderbal, was arrested at village Gund, Kangan.
Dr Mughal said the medical examination of the girl confirmed that she was raped. The girl was handed over to her parents, he said.
