Soumen Bhattacharjee new secretary of N-24 Journalsits asso

Barrackpore, Aug (UNI) Soumen Bhattacharya of the Telegraph has been elected general secretary for a two-year term while Suniti Malakar of the Sambad Pratidin retained the post of president of the North 24 Parganas Journalists' Association.

The Association held its 6th Annual General Meeting at Panihati Loko Sanskriti Bhawan here yesterday which also elected Uma Sankar Das of PTI as vice-president and Probal Chakraverti of UNI and Sanjib Chaki as joint secretaries.

Outgoing secretary Dipankar Nag has been appointed executive secretary and Bagala Prasad Roy relected as treasurer.

The scribes present in the meeting also expressed concern over the growing cases of assaults on the media persons while discharing their duties across the country.

The meeting also observed a minute's silence to mourn the death of an eminent writer and former director of information, Government of West Bengal, Tarapada Roy.
