Right to information a strong weapon to strengthen democracy

Patna, Aug 27 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today described the right to information as powerful weapon to strengthen the democratic set-up in the country.

Mr Kumar told newspersons here that right to information had been given as a powerful weapon to the people and they could avail this right to redress their personal grievances and strengthen the democracy as well.

'' People can fight the malady of corruption in the state administration by exercising this right, '' he advised.

'' The information call centre, opened at the state information commission, was an innovative approach to pass on the required information to the people seeking it as soon as possible, '' Mr Kumar said adding the information seekers were taking full advantage of the new facility.

He said the mode of payment for seeking required information from the state information commission was being made simple and the state government was mulling over to introduce cash and postal orders as other modes to deposit the requisite fee for the purpose.
