Panchayati Raj allocates Rs 15 cr to Meghalaya

Shillong, Aug 27 (UNI) The Panchayati Raj Ministry has allocated Rs 15 crore to the Meghalaya government under the Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF) programme during last fiscal.

''The BRGF, approved in 2006-07, has a district component under the Backward Districts Initiative of the Rashtriya Sam Vikas Yojana (RSVY),'' officials said here today.

The allocation under the district component of BRGF consists of-- funds for capacity-building of Panchayati Raj Institutions and an untied developmental grant.

According to sources, the districts covered under the RSVY have to complete their allocation of Rs 45 crore per district under the earlier programme before shifting to the BRGF mode.
