Minister warns medical colleges on infrastructure

Mangalore, Aug 27 (UNI) Karnataka Minister for Medical Education V S Acharya today warned that medical colleges which failed to have adequate infrastructure would be de-recognised.

Speaking to reporters here on the sidelines of the inauguration of Manipal Nursing College, Mr Acharya said the government would strictly implement the New Nursing Policy from this academic year and those colleges found lacking basic infrastructure would attract de-recognition.

Stating several complaints were received against medical colleges which did not possess proper infrastructure, he said, ''Sufficient time has been given to authorities to develop infrastructure and the government will not wait any further. Action will be taken against the erring managements,'' he added.

He also said there was a proposal to start a Government Dental College in Bellary from next academic year.

Earlier, speaking at the function, he said there was an urgent need to set right the inadequacies in quality nursing education and shortage of qualified faculty.
