Kumaraswamy appeals for cooperation to attract investment

Mangalore, Aug 27 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today appealed to the farmers to cooperate with the government to attract investment in industries aimed at overall economic development.

Speaking after laying the foundation for various development works taken up jointly by Karnataka Power Transmission Company Limited (KPTCL) and MESCOM at the total cost of Rs 137 crore here, he said that the farmers, who would loose their land for various projects, should cooperate with the administration for the economic and industrial progress of the region.

Mr Kumaraswamy said that an investment of Rs 25,000 Crore was expected to flow for expansion of the ONGC project here.

He said that there was also need for the proper dialogue between the investors and the farmers before acquisition of lands and acquisition process should start only after the dialogue.

He said that the government was also seriously thinking on the Rs 144 crore Paschima Vahini project of construction of vented dams to the west flown rivers.

Deputy Chief Minister B S Yadiyurappa, who also participated in the programme, said that due to the budrot fungus disease, 60 per cent of the arecanut crop in the district had been damaged causing a total loss over Rs 100 crore.
