Hajipur, Aug 27 (UNI) Union Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh today said the Indo-US nuclear deal was in the national interest and will not affect the nuclear policy of India.

Talking to newspersons here he said the concern raised by the Left parties over the Indo-US nuclear deal was not genuine as the national interest had been kept in mind while finalising the deal. The nuclear deal would go a long way in ensuring the energy security in the country, he added.

''We are able to produce 3700 Mega Watt(MW) electricity at the moment but have targetted to produce it upto 20,000 MW by 2020,'' he said adding, ''we would be getting the smooth supply of enriched uranium from Nuclear Supplier Group(NSG) once the deal becomes operational.'' ''In fact China, a communist country is already enjoying the benefit of getting smooth supply of enriched Uranium from NSG and it is all the more important for us to maintain the power balance in this region'', he stated.
