Elabortate security arrangements for Lok Sabha bypoll

Jamshedpur, Aug 27 (UNI) Elabortate security arrangements have been made in view of the naxalite threat to boycott the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha bypoll, slated for August 29.

Election officer-cum-East Singbhum Deputy Commissioner N M Kulkarni told mediapersons here today that 40 companies of para-military force would be deployed in the naxal-affected areas of the constituency.

Besides, 17 companies of Jharkhand armed police and 3,800 Distirct armed police would be stationed in various sensitive booths to conduct free and fair election.

Mr Kulkarni said two choppers would be used to keep vigil on the movement of the ultras in the dense areas.

He said the requisition of one helicopter had already been confirmed while that of another was yet to be confirmed.

He said the border areas along with Orissa and West Bengal would be sealed on the polling day and cooperation from police of the neighboring states was sought to check naxalite activities.

Mr Kulkarni said, '' We are not going to compromise as far as security is concerned and a foolproof arrangement has been made to protect the polling personnel and the voters in the naxalite belt. '' He said out of 1263 booths in the constituency 150 were identified super sensitive and videography would be done for those booth.

To a question, Mr Kulkarni said 24 cases of violation of model code of conduct had already been booked against the party candidates.
