Dalit leader shot in Haryana

Sonepat, Aug 27 (UNI) Dalit leader Lara, the main accused in the Baljit Siwach murder case, was shot dead in Gohana town of this district tonight by unidentified assailants.

Three armed assailants came on a motorcycle and fired six bullets on Dalit leader Lara, killing him on the spot at around 2100 hours.

Lara was the main accused in the murder of Baljit Siwach on August 26, 2005. The murder had led to the burning of over 100 Dalit houses in Gohana. Lara was however acquitted in CBI probe later.

The three assailants fled the spot of crime after killing the Dalit leader.

Hundreds of people came out in the streets to protest against the murder and blocked traffic on Sonepat-Jind Highway.
