Rameswaram, Aug 26 (UNI) The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) will organise a nation-wide road roko on September 12 to protest against the demolition of Ramar Sethu (Adam's bridge) for the Sethusamudram Shipping Channel Project (SSCP).

Talking to reporters after attending a ''Yagna'' organised for the protection of Ramar Sethu, VHP International General Secretary Pravin Togadia warned the Centre of ''serious consequences'' if it went ahead with its move to demolish the bridge.

Meanwhile, a draft resolution passed at the meeting of the Rameswaram Ram Setu Protection Movement strongly opposed the implementation of the project in the present alignment.

The resolution said, '' We hope, the UPA government will respect the sentiments of millions of Hindus and should not behave like Taliban demolishing the Buddha of Bamiyan calling it a mere stone.'' ''We want the present UPA Government to drop the project in its present alignment and if it refuses to accept our demands, the Hindus will teach the government a lesson. The government should not play with peace loving Hindus and provoke them to react strongly.'' The Central Body of the Ramsethu protection movement will meet at New Delhi on August 30 to decide further course of action.
