Police arrest one for aiding terrorists, scour blast sites for clues
Hyderabad, Aug 26 (UNI) Groping for leads in the second terrorist strike in the city within four months, Andhra Pradesh Police today arrested a person who had allegedly assisted the perpetrators of last night's twin bomb blasts, while teams, scouring the sites for clues, claimed to have discovered vital information about the attack whose toll has risen to 43.
Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil reached here to have an on-the-spot assessment of the situation. He visited the blast sites and the victims. Later, talking to mediapersons, Mr Patil rejected the suggestion that POTA should be revived to handle terrorism effectively and assured all assistance to states in taking up counter-terrorism measures.
He also apprised Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of the prevailing situation, after he reached New Delhi tonight.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and former Union Home Minister L K Advani, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury and TRS President K Chandrasekhara Rao separately visited the sites of the tragic incidents earlier in the day.
