AJYCP demands ILP in Assam to check infiltration
Guwahati, Aug 26 (UNI) The Assam Jatiyadabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) today demanded the enactment of Inner Line Permit (ILP) for the state to check illegal immigration.
Talkig to mediapersons here AJYCP general secretary Manoj Barua said,''We need ILP in our state as other states are dumping their suspected elements here and we have no means to stop them.'' ILP was in Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Mizoram, where one has to take special permission to enter the states.
They also alleged that the neighbouring states were pushing the suspected Bangladeshi immigrants to Assam from their states.
However, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said they were not Bangladeshi nationals but were Indian.
''They should not be categorised because of their religion,''he said.
But the All Assam Students Union (AASU) took up the matter seriously and proved before the court through confessions that majority of them were actually Bangladeshis.
The ILP formed as per the Eastern Bengal Regulation Act, 1873 does not allow people of other states to enter a state with ILP.
Demanding a white paper on the whole matter, the AJYCP alleged that the Centre had no sincerity on resolving the issue.
''With Bangladesh never accepting that there were any Bangladeshis in Assam, the whole situation became untenable,'' they added.
Meanwhile, the AASU sources said,''the Congress High Command's new equation with the Assam United Democratic front (AUDF) had forced Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to drop his strong anti-Bangladeshi posture.'' The AJYCP had also announced a series of agitation programmes between September 2 to 19 to press their demand on the issue.
