Air-dropping to resume in some flood affected areas of Bihar

Patna, Aug 26 (UNI) Flood situation in Bihar deteriorated again in furtuer while instructions were issued to resume air dropping of food packets in inundated areas of Begusarai district.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar visited the flood-hit areas of Begusarai district and assured the marooned people that relief operation would be launched vigorously afresh and air dropping of food packets would resume. Bakhri was the worst hit areas in the district and steps would be taken to shift the affected people of the area to safer places if needed, he said.

''A Central team would soon visit Bihar and assess the damages caused by the flood and a concrete assistance would be announced by the Union government for the state on the basis of report of the team,'' he informed.

According to an official communique released here, more than 1.90 crores people were affected by the flood fury in 19 district of the state so far.

A report from Samastipur said that the surging Noon river breached its embankments inundating Morwa several villages in Sarairanjan, Patori and Tajpur blocks of the district. Road communication of the affected villages with the district headquarter had been snapped by the flood water. Train services between Samastipur and Muktapur stations remained disrupted as the tracks on the route were submerged with flood water.

In Darbhanga district, flood situation has improved considerably after flood water receded in several villages. The railway services between Darbhanga and Samastipur remained disrupted as tracks on the route were submerged with flood water.

A report from Kahalgaon said that flood situation in three blocks including Narainpur and Kharik blocks were under spate of flood fury following breaches in embankments of Ganga and Kosi rivers in Bhagalpur.

Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur and Katihar were among the worst affected districts by the flood fury.

Weatherman predicted moderate to heavy rains in the catchment areas and in the plains during the next 24 hours.
