UP Flood situation improves
Lucknow, Aug 25 (UNI) Even as people in the flood-hit areas of Uttar Pradesh have heaved a sigh of relief with the receding water level of rivers, almost 300 villages of eastern UP were still reported to be marooned.
According to Central Water Commission, only turbulent Ghaghra was overflowing the danger mark by 33 cm in Turtipar, while other prominent rivers naming Ganga, Sharda and Rapti were flowing below the danger mark.
In the last 24 hrs, meteriological department recorded highest rainfall in Bani (Rae Barelli) (5 cm), followed by Sultanpur and Moradabad (4 cm each), Neemsaar and Bhatpurvaghat (Lucknow) (3 cm each). Elgin Bridge and Jaunpur witnessed rainfall of 2 cm each.
The situation is considerably improving in Gorakhpur division with the continuous dip in water level of Ghaghra, Rapti, Rohini and Kuano rivers.
According to a report reaching the state headquarters, about 131 villages were still affected due to flood in Gorakhpur division.
However, traffic movement at Ram Janki Marg in Badhelganj area had became normal.
Meanwhile, rescue and relief operations in the division were under full-swing and medicines were distributed to fight diseases like Malaria, Japanese Encephilitis (JE) and Gastroenteritis.
Basti district magistrate Saurabh Babu said the situation of the district was improving, but about 150 villages were still inundated.
In Lakhimpur Kheri, villages of Dhaurhara, Nighasan, Pallia, Lakimpur and Gola tehsils had shown a sign of improvement in the flood situation.
Reports from Aligarh, Barelli and Gonda also mentioned improvement in the situation with the decreasing water level of rivers.
