Six travel agents booked for fraud in Phagwara region

Phagwara, Aug 25 (UNI) In four different cases of frauds by fake travel agents to the tune of Rs 16.75 Lakh in Phagwara and Phillaur, Police has booked six fake travel agents overnight.

Phagwara Police headed by DSP H P S Khakh has registered a case of fraud under section 420 and 406 IPC against two fake travel agents Makhan Singh of village Teg PS Phillaur and Teja Ram of village Dosanjh Kalan on the charges of cheating a Phagwara resident Pargan Ram of local Baba Gadhia under the cover of sending him USA.

DSP Khakh said, Pargan Ram in his written complaint, lodged with local police has alleged that he gave a huge amount of Rs 8.5 Lakh to both accused on November 12, 2001, but neither the accused sent him to USA nor returned his money. Both accused were still absconded.

In Phillaur, Police has registered three cases of frauds of Rs 8.25 Lakh under sections 420 and 406 IPC against fake travel agents who took the money from different villagers on the false promise of sending them abroad.

Phillaur DSP Sh Harpreet Singh Benepal said today that police has registered cases against Gian Chand of Delhi, Chaman Lal of village Garrha and Lovely Kumar of Delhi, Sat Paul of village Kang Sabu under section 420/406 IPC on the charges of cheating people on the false promise of sending them abroad.

Police was searching for the accused who were absconding.
