Sc dismisses petition seeking ban on animal slaughter
New Delhi, Aug 25 (UNI) The Supreme Court has dismissed a writ petition seeking directions to impose a blanket ban on the slaughter of cows, horses and buffaloes in the country.
A bench comprising Justices G P Mathur and P K Balasubramanyan yesterday while dismissing the petition of one Balram Bali and another noted, ''It is not within the domain of the court to issue a direction for a ban on slaughter of cows, buffaloes and horses as it is a matter of policy on which a decision has to be taken by the government.'' The apex court said, '' A complete ban on slaughter of cows, buffaloes and horses as sought in the present petition, can only be imposed by legislation enacted by the appropriate legislature.
