RIMS emerging as one of the best hospitals in the country

Imphal, Aug 25 (UNI) The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences(RIMS) here has become one of the best institutes with the rare distinction of having PG classes in 23 specialities.

RIMS Director L Fimate here today said the focus of the institute was opening up to the South East Asian countries. The Centre was also planning to construct trans-Asian highway passing through Manipur and connecting Myanmar, Thailand and other countries, he added.

The RIMS was recently taken over by the Centre and plans were afoot to construct an OPD building, library and hostels at a cost of about Rs 100 crores, the director said.

''Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has also given additional 90 acres of land at a nominal rate of Re one per acre and now the RIMS has a total of 312 acres of land,'' Mr Fimate said.

RIMS has large number of specialists which attracts many patients from other states too.

On completion of the trans-Asian highway, large numbers of people might come from the neighbouring countries for treatment.

Besides, new machines would also be purchased to meet the demands of the patients, the director said.

He appealed to the people to help in making RIMS one of the most reputed hospitals of the country.
