Killing of a girl in city rocks J&K assembly
Srinagar, Aug 25 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly today witnessed uproar and noisy scenes over the issue of alleged molestation and subsequent killing of a ten-year-old girl in the city yesterday.
As the House met this morning to take normal business, most members from the opposition, National Conference (NC) disrupted the House by demanding a statement from the government on the killing of the girl in the Ikhrajpora area of the city.
Mr Ali Mohammad Sagar speaking on the issue raised the question mark on the law and order situation in the state, particularly in the valley.
He said a number of such incidents have occurred in different parts of the valley. He particularly mentioned the incident of Kupwara where a girl was raped and later murdered.
Mr Sagar said this was an important issue and government should reply to the concerns of the House.
Pandit Mangat Ram Sharma, the Health Minister, said that members of all parties, including from the treasury bench were equally concerned over the incident.
He said a statement would be given in the house as soon as the details are be collected about the incident.
When the members from the NC continued their speech together, which could not be heard in the press box, the speaker Tara Chand named chief whip of the NC, Mubarak Gul and asked leader of the opposition Abdul Rahim Rather to control him (Gul).
Mr Chand said Mr Gul always tries to disrupt the proceedings of the house.
When Mr Gul resumed his seat, the members from the Border Area were on their feet, alleging that the chair was not allowing them to raise the issues concerned to their areas.
However, they were disallowed by the speaker and promised to allow them to speak after the question hour.
