Extend services to rural areas: Kalam to Banks
Karur, Aug 25: Stating that rural development was the key to the nation's progress, former president A P J Abdul Kalam had urged banks to extend their services to rural areas.
Addressing the founders day celebrations of Karur Vysya Bank (KVB) here last night, Dr Kalam said the banks should help bridge the gap between urban and rural.
He called upon the banks to give priority in lending to the agriculture sector, agro-based industries and horticulture.
He said the banks should coordinate with other development agencies to provide potable water, electricity, education and healthcare to the rural people.
Dr Kalam also urged the KVB to support local entrepreneurs, aspiring students and provide medical insurance to the unorganised sector.
