Haryana: Free travel facilty for women on Raksha Bandhan

Chandigarh, Aug 25 (UNI) The Haryana Roadways will provide the facility of 'free travel' for women and children (up to the age of 15 years) to any place in the state on the 'Raksha Bandhan' day on August 28.

Stating this, state Transport Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala yesterday said this unique facility, provided at the behest of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda last year, would be extended this time also.

He said the Haryana Roadways was the only transport corporation of the country to have launched such a beneficial gesture for the women.

''It is Haryana's way of saluting the spirit of brother-sister relationship and the commitment to stand by each other in the hour of need,'' he added.

Last year when this facility was first announced by the state roadways, over ten lakh women and children availed it to visit their brothers and family members on the day of Raksha Bandhan.

''We have sensitised all the roadways officers/officials to ensure that all the buses are available from early in the monring uptil late in the evening for the free travel inside the state,'' Mr Surjewala said.
