Guwahati, Aug 25 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Yuba Morcha(BJYM) today announced they would use culture to counter the social evils in the Northeast.

Addressing a press meet here, BJYM national president Amit Thaker said, ''Culture is NE's biggest USP. We will fight the other problems like insurgency, with this weapon in the region.'' ''As part of the BJYM's endeavour to increase its base in the region, it has decided to promote the culture of the region,'' he said.

''A NE youth festival will be organised here within the next six-seven months. Winners will get the opportunity to perform in other cities, where they can spread the NE culture,'' he added.

Underscoring the fact that various tribes lived in perfect harmony in NE, Mr Thaker said, ''The region clearly demonstrates unity in diversity,'' He also maintained that ''culture and a positive approach'' would help counter the problems of the NE. He hinted at employment and entrepreneurship generation programmes by the BJYM for the NE, adding that concrete proposals will be unveiled soon.

On the adivasi Olympic that the BJYM was organising in the adivasi districts across the country, Mr Thaker said, ''The adivasis had voted us in large number. We will definitely ensure their uplift.'' On the problems of infiltration from Bangladesh, he said the BJYM has adopted active actions in curbing the influx and had also handed over suspected Bangladeshi nationals to the police on several occasions in the past few months.

The BJYM would lend its support to all the organisations fighting against infiltration, including the All Assam Students' Union(AASU).

Today's meeting had chalked out various strategies for increasing the presence of the party in the state and discussed other major concerns.

Three resolutions had also been adopted through this meet regarding checking of Bangladeshi infiltration, grant of Scheduled Tribe status to six more tribes of the state and check in the price rise of essential items,'' said state BJYM president, Dilip Saikia.
