BHEL bags order worth Rs 6,500 crore
Tiruchirapalli, Aug 25: The public sector Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has won contracts worth over Rs 6,500 crore for setting up two power projects of 500 MW each at Koderma Thermal Power Station in Jharkand and Durgapur Steel Thermal Power Station in West Bengal on a turnkey basis.
A BHEL release said the contract envisages manufacture, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of steam turbines, generators, boilers, associated auxiliaries, balance of plant and electricals besides state-of-the-art controls and instrumentation, electrostatic precipitators and switchyard, including civil works.
BHEL had fully established state-of-the-art technology to manufacture of thermal units of 500 MW rating and 1,000 MW rating.
BHEL was now poised to introduce 800 MW supercritical boilers, suited to Indian conditions, using Indian as well as imported coal.
The company was shoring up its capability for higher rating hydro sets and advanced class gas turbines to cater to upcoming market requirements.
Bracing up to meet the country's power capacity addition targets in the 11th Plan period and beyond, the BHEL was enhancing its manufacturing capacity in the next three years from the current level of 6,000 MW to 15,000 MW per annum, the release added.
