Air Force to pay rich tribute to Meghdoot martyrs tomorrow

Jammu, Aug 25 (UNI) Rich tribute will be paid to the martyrs, who made supreme sacrifice during the conquest of Siachen -- the highest battlefield in the world -- in Operation Meghdoot, official sources said here.

The 130 Helicopter Unit (HU), deployed at Air Force Station Jammu, would pay homage in a memorial service to martyrs of ''Operation Meghdoot'' on August 26, a release said.

More than 770 soldiers are believed to have lost their lives atop the glacier since Operation Meghdoot, the April 1984 operation that led to India acquiring a commanding position atop the three principal passes along the Saltoro range.
