AIKS to launch nation-wide stir against SEZs
Hyderabad, Aug 25 (UNI) The CPI-led All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) will launch nation-wide struggle from September 1, demanding land for the poor and protesting against the UPA government's Special Economic Zone (SEZ) policy.
Addressing a press conference here today, AIKS National General Secretary Atul Kumar Anjaan said the agitations would be taken up in a phased manner across the country.
In the first phase, protests would be organised in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Maharashtra and Orissa till September 15.
''Unduly liberal assistance, tax concessions and special privileges offered to industrialists, both Indian and foreign, do not justify itself in terms of results and performances,'' he said.
Expressing concern over labour exploitation in SEZs, Mr Anjaan said the government should review its SEZ policy and formulate a new peasant-friendly rehabilitation policy.
