Administration prohibits movement of people on eruption spot

Itanagar, Aug 25 (UNI) The Papum Pare district administration has restricted entry into the area where a suspected volcanic eruption occurred yesterday near Koma Seki village, seven kms off Kimin, to ensure sefety of the people.

Experts are carrying our investigation in the area to determine whether the eruption was in fact a volcanic one.

Deputy Commissioner Bidol Tayeng, who visited the spot yesterday, instructed another Assistant Commissioner of Kimin to ensure security in the area and post additional personnel.

The eruption had left behind a two and half metre wide crater on the spot located at a small hill knob above 50 m away from the Kimin-Ziro road. Lumps of blackish lava of various shapes and sizes were strewn over an area of 100 square meters, adjacent to an electric post, which melted on impact with the lava.

Scientists from Geological Survey of India and Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology here have already visited the spot and collected samples of erupted materials, which have been sent to Kolkata and Dehradun for analysis.

The strange and extraordinary incident has unleashed a wave of excitement and curiosity among the people of the locality.
