Three members of family killed in road accident

Cuddalore, Aug 24 (UNI) Three members of a family, including a couple, were crushed to death and two girl children escaped with injuries when a sugarcane ladden truck overturned and fell on them at Ramanatham in this district of Tamil Nadu this evening.

The victims were travelling in two two-wheelers when the mishap occurred on the Villupuram-Tiruchirapalli National Highway at Ramanatham near here.

Police said on being hit by a overtaking truck, the sugarcane ladden truck overtursned and the victims were caught under the bundles of sugarcane, stacked in a heap in the truck.

While Ranjith Kumar (35), his wife Nallambal (30) and their famil member Kothandam (35) died on the spot, Nithya (10) and Priya (8) Ranjith Kumar's daughters escaped with injuries.

They were admitted to Government Hospital at Virudhachalam, police added.
