Itanagar, Aug 24 (UNI) Advisor to the Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Takam Sanjoy today alleged that former Chief Minister Gegong Apang had misused his office.

Earlier, there were allegations of an assassination bid on Mr Apang by underground outfits.

Talking to newsmen here, Mr Sanjoy alleged that Mr Apang tried to malign the image of those leaders for his vested interests.

On August 4, 2005, Ms Bamang Kachi, a lady cadre of the National Liberation Front of Arunachal (NLFA), confessed before the magistrate immediately after her surrender that the organisation had made two consecutive attempts to assassinate Mr Apang after being instigated by Mr Sanjoy along with present Puducherry Lt Governor and former Chief Minister of Arunachal Mukut Mithi, Arunachal Citizen Rights (ACR) chairman Bamang Anthony and the then Papum Pare district Superintendent of Police Robin Hibu.

As a follow-up of the confession, a case had been registered with the Crime Branch (Special Investigation Team) by Mr Apang. However, so far no action had been initiated against the accused.

Mr Sanjoy alleged that on investigation, it was revealed that the surrender ceremony was staged and the activists were tutored by the then Chief Minister to make such a statement before the magistrate, without following official procedures.

Claiming that a CD prepared during the confession could not substantiate the claim made by Mr Apang as it contained certain lacunae, Mr Sanjoy said all the accused had filed a case against the persons involved in the conspiracy, including Mr Apang, his son Omak Apang, his security officer S P Bhutia, OSD Dr Byabang Rana, the then DC Bida Gadi, SP Chuku Apa and many others on July 22 last.
