Motorola launches Razr 2 at Rs 20,000
New Delhi, Aug 24: Motorola Inc launched Moto Razr 2, a sleeker and smoother phone then its predecessor after having shaved off two mm from the original RAZR and priced it at Rs 20,000.
''The device has features such as CrystalTalk technology, web browsing, faster menu navigation along with a slimmer, sleeker but a stronger design,'' said company Senior Vice President (Worldwide Sales-Mobile Devices) Ray Roman.
The phone comes in two prices with a 512 MB model costing around Rs 18,999 and the 2GB memory phone being priced at Rs 19,999.
''India is a very important market for us and remains the focus. That's the reason, we chose India for the global launch of Razr 2,'' said Mr Ramon.
The product will be assembled in India at the company's Chennai plant. Mr Ramon, however, denied any plans of manufacturing the phones in the country, saying that all the components are sourced from across the globe and only the assembling will take place here.
The country is one of the biggest markets for mobile phones after China and the market is set for competition, he added.
Weighing just 117 gms, the phone is equipped with a two megapixel camera and Quad band connectivity for international roaming along with a internal screen of 2.2 inches.
Amidst the chaos over a competitor brand's battery, Motorola is confident about the success of Razr 2, as it feels it has the best features packed in one.
When asked why the company had failed to do well in India despite being a leader in most countries across the globe, Mr Ramon said that the company had entered the country with a 'bang' but could not live up to the hype. ''We had to go back to the drawing board and design phones and strategies that would work for India.
Now, we are confident of occupying a major share of the telecom pie,'' Mr Ramon told sources.
Mr Ramon added that the average Indian today earns more and is ready to shell out extra money for the features and the appearance of the phone.
''It's not just a phone but also a style statement. And we kept that in mind while designing the phone,'' he said.
