Measures to reduce pressure on New Delhi station afoot: Velu

New Delhi, Aug 24 (UNI) Minister of state for Railways R Velu today said to reduce the pressure on the New Delhi railway station, a new passenger terminal at Anand Vihar railway station has been planned for construction.

In the first Phase, three platforms have been planned at Anand Vihar to cater to long distance trains, he said, replying to questions in the Rajya Sabha.

Two island platforms have been planned at New Delhi. The existing foot over bridge no 3 which presently connects platform no 12 to platform no 6 has been planned for extension to cover all platforms at the New Delhi railway station.

Two other passenger terminals have been planned at Holambi Kalan and Bijawasan railway station in Delhi area, he said.

He also said several developmental works have been planned for execution at the New Delhi railway station including development of New Delhi yard (Phases III, IV&V) and new Station building on the Ajmeri Gate side.

Also, to reduce pressure on the New Delhi station, Mr Velu said several passenger trains have been diverted via Hazrat Nizamuddin and Ghaziabad without touching New Delhi Railway station.

These are 2687/2688 Chennai-Dehradun Express, 4309/4310 Ujjain-Dehradun Express, 4317/4318 Indore-Dehradun Express, 8237/8234 Bilaspur-Amritsar Chhattisgarh Express.

The following trains have been given stoppage at stations in National Capital Region with effect from 01.07.07: (1) 4731 New Delhi-Bhatinda Intercity Express has been given stoppage at Subzi Mandi station.

(2) 2715/2716 Sachkhand Express has been given stoppage at Faridabad station.

(3) 2561 Swatantrata Sainani Express has been given stoppage at Ghaziabad station.

(4) 5279/5280 Poorabiya Express has been given stoppage at Ghaziabad station.

(5) 2479/2428 Rewa Express has been given stoppage at Ghaziabad station.

(6) 4723/4724 Kalindi Express has been given stoppage at Delhi Shahdra station.

(7) 2017/2018 New Delhi-Dehradun Shatabdi Express has been given stoppage at Ghaziabad Railway station.

Regarding the redevelopment of New Delhi railway station as world-class station, time-frame has yet not been decided.
